Finding Grace By Adjusting Our Perspective
Mikell Camp and Conference Center October 28-30, 2011 Join young adults from across the southeast for celebration, exploration, growth, fun, and worship in the Episcopal tradition. We'll have another great lineup of workshops, hiking, and fellowship, with returning keynote speaker, the Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta. We are getting ready for the 4th Annual Young Adult Summit, sponsored by DAYA (Diocese of Atlanta Young Adults). DAYA was created to help young adults grow in their faith and connect with their peers, and through the Young Adult Summit, we aim to continue this mission on an even broader scale, enabling us to reach out to the wider Episcopal community. This annual event will focus on empowering young adults through a series of specially designed workshops and plenty of free time for fellowship. We are all finding ways to live out the Gospel in our own lives. In the new testament we are given the Great Commission to go out in to the world and continue in the Apostle's teachings and the breaking of the bread. This year we are focusing on understanding the grace in our differences and how that affects our ability to spread the good news. In 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10, Paul talks about the "thorns" in our sides which we interpreted to be the hardships put on all of us by our differences. We all have gifts of gender, race, sexuality, ability, and personality. During the weekend we will be trying to understand the grace in those differences.
We are always happy to have with us our keynote speaker Bishop J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta. He is full of wonderful things to say about young adults and is passionate about spending time with young people to learn more about the way they see they world. This will be his last year at the Summit as the Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta and we hope to get a chance to celebrate all he has meant to and done for young adults as a Bishop. He will also so lead a workshop again this year. We are excited to invite back the Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta, Keith Whitmore. He is a strong young adult advocate and enjoys any time he gets to spend with young people in the church. He has many exciting things to say to us as young people and was a great asset to the panel discussion last year. A tentative schedule of the weekend and descriptions of the workshops, as well as printable media needed to help spread the word about this conference, can be found on this site. If you would like be a part of this empowering conference, please complete and return the registration form or register online by October 14, 2011. Late registrations will be accepted with an additional $50 fee.
